It's been a long long time...

Well, actually there are lots of things to write. Just tt people, ok, in particular, me, am lazy. So we end up not writing, and since others don't write, I don't write mentality comes about. And so we go on not knowing what's happening to our friends.
Hmmm... for starters, I must say Elvin's blog is quite fun to read though. At least it's more current then ours (6, yes, SIX people combine). Haha, good work, Elvin. But blog here also mah...It's like, everytime I come back to this website only to find that most of the times it remains as it was. So here we have it, things go unwritten.
Ok, enough crap. Here's a little update about me.
Well, I've since went back to church, but to a different one though, it's the new big one near my house and I thought I'd go there and check it out. Turns our the first 2 'visits' weren't as bad so now I'm considering joining the Youth fellowship at Paya Lebar Methodist Church. Yep, it's really all thanks to God. Only He has enough strength to pull me back from my lazy sleeping position.
Yep, and I've handed up my application to 4 different Aust universities and also to NUS. Still quite unbelievable that I already spent like $500 (!!) on the different Uni entry tests alone!! Luckily they waived the application fees, otherwise I'd be like, $800 poorer. That's something off my mind for the moment. Now it's just hoping and praying. It's really up to Him. =)
Things here at the medical centre are better... So that's another thanks.
My current favourite album is II by the Calling. Haha...
Hmmm what else?
Oh, it's really encouraging that we seem to be meeting up more often these days. Hope we'll be able to meet up as the power of 6 again. Till then, rejoice in His presence! =)

on clubbing

Over and over, the throbbing chorus of a dance hit explodes out of several batteries of speakers so powerful that the dance floor trembles, earthquake style with every reverberating bass note. Through a white haze of smoke with a light lemon scent, the strobe lights of red and purple illuminates the party of dancers: a motley crowd of men with crew cuts, women quite scantily clad, some even in vinyl skirts so micro they serve no functional purpose. Where the hell was I?

I was out clubbing on a Wednesday night (yes… it’s ladies night) at Chinablack. My army khakis and I wanted to go to Zouk but unfortunately, there was a private party going on so Chinablack it was. I had initially rejected the kind invitation to club because I was seriously dead beat and I reckon I would do better with an early night, but no…. I didn’t want to be a wet blanket when everyone was all groovy and ready to party all night long. So after struggling for a while, I overcame the massive inertia that was keeping me from leaving home and in the next instant flew to Orchard to join my friends. Peer pressure at work.

Now the blardy entrance fee costed me 18 bucks. As I entered the lift, I felt an ineffable sense of guilt so overwhelming that I stopped feeling sleepy and languid. I took careful steps as I descended the dimly lit spiral stairway that leads to the dance floor. The night then, was still quite young (~10pm) and those hardcore clubbers were nowhere to be seen - probably would not appear till past midnight. Every reverberating bass note made my heart palpitate in sync with adrenaline searing through my veins. I was very, absolutely, perfectly, really conscious of everything that was happening around me. That scene was no stranger to me for it was my second time there. I’ve gotten used to the smoky environment (all credit goes to the army) and the sight of almost meaningless prancing and bon-bon shakin. Even though I may seem as though I’m intoxicated – just like the others, I tell you, I was not.

The clubbing " trip " was a preview to what the US would be like when I pursue my undergrad studies there. Call it a cultural immersion programme. Even so, calling it a cultural immersion programme is definitely an understatement as it is obvious to everyone that it’s 100 times worse over there. 100 times is still understated!!! (“p) Clubbing, or parties, is not just the way of life but also the way to go. It is what makes them tick. I kept asking myself what is it about clubbing that is so appealing? Is it being able to let loose all the frustrations and stresses one face at work? Is it the cool image portrayed in one’s life that by clubbing, one is more vibrant, colourful, interesting and in tune with the world than one who does not? Or even worse, is it being able to hook up a pretty party babe for one unforgettable night? Anybody thinks it widens our social circle??? Maybe your reason is simpler… like that of mine. Peer pressure??? Anyone?

Probably, and I suspect so, that it is just a convenient avenue out of reality. To take a few hours out from being yourself to be part of that self you’ve never thought you can be…. I’ve seen the side of my friends that I’ve never seen before. To quite an extent, I became rather disgusted. To me, especially after this clubbing encounter, the club is just another of the devil’s lair – an invite to a wonderland of disillusionment, to think and do things that make you feel good. To satisfy by burning curiosity, I went around asking my friends “ Why clubbing? ”. Some claim it is just their way of having fun, to “ chill out ”. I don’t know…….

So in case you are wondering whether to call me for the next clubbing trip, I say “ Go ahead. ” I will just chill out at one corner, sip some Whiskey Coke and watch the others having fun (their way). I simply enjoy watching people!

But I am still not over with spending $30 just for that night! *growls*

And as for you guys, please start hitting the keyboard!!!! Where are the posts?

on loosing connections

While many (like you all) are having their little gatherings and boding sessions, I'm currently so bogged down with work. Though it has been very trying, I'd like to think I've learnt a great deal along the way - especially when it comes to handling people. You wouldn't want to know how complex the "political situation" here in camp can get. Sad to say, but yeah... it's the relational problems that's breaking us down. I'm expecting some protest to break out soon. *sigh*

Yeah.... just came back from a 2 week confinement period and also back from sunny tekong. In fact, not-so-sunny Tekong. It has been rainy a few days. I remembered my field camp was held under the baking hot sun. This is quite the exact opposite. I should think the recruits did have a few "tekan" sessions but I assure you guys I'm definitely not some sadist or mastermind behind any tekan. Please, I was so tired I didn't even bothered to steal rifles in the dead of the night. I treated the field camp as though some summer outfield, getting-in -touch with nature camp... basking under the sun, gorging on can food instead of forcing combat rations down my throat, and simply enjoying a good bath at the end of the day.

I'm so so so so out of touch with my other friends.... People in church.... I try my best to meet up for sunday fellowship whenever I can. People from JC... the last time I met them, it was like 8 jan? How can I forget my buddies here.... Sigh, not that I want to, but duty calls. Hope you guys can understand. Got lots of things to talk about when we meet again. What about 19th March??? The recruits will be POPing on the 15th. I'll be on leave that whole week. FINALLY......... Because of the limited time I have out camp, my focus is naturally on my family and also building up my spiritual side.... Not forgetting driving and stuffs..... Seriously speaking, I'm really afraid I'm gonna loose all my friends because of the "enclosed" lifestyle I'm leading now... scary sia.

I'm also quite lazy to sms nowadays. Dunno why, but i'll make the effort too kae? Jared, tried calling you yesterday but no one was at home.... see ya guys soon. Please do not hesitate to flood my inbox, email and phoneline when you guys are free k? Don't wanna loose you all too...HAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

blessed week ahead!~

cheers,
dash
