Whenever you remember

When you look back on times we had
I hope you smile
And know that through the good and through the bad
I was on your side
When nobody could hold us down
We claimed the brightest star
And we, we came so far
And no they won’t forget, yeah

Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believed that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember I’ll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember

When you think back on all we’ve done
I hope you’re proud
When you look back and see how far we’ve come
It was our time to shine
And nobody could hold us down
They thought they’d see us fall
But we, we stood so tall
And no we won’t forget, yeah

Its been a while since I last made a proper post. Keep those posts coming in Dash. So very exciting ya. Your hair looks nice but what are you supposed to be dressed as? Anyway, recently my bro's gf, LEE HER CHING, went for the auditions of Project Superstar II and she got into the final 24. So I am here helping her to promote. Haha. Not too bad a singer. Go judge for youselves. Its starting real soon so do vote if you can. Here are some pics but its quite blur.

She is the one in the green dress. Del and me used to think she looks like Gong Li and Celeste Chong from some angles. All the best Da Sao. Gambatte!

Halloween part 1

Hello guys,

IT WAS ONE HELL OF A WEEKEND HERE IN MADISON, USA!!!

but before I delve deeper into the juicy details of Halloween weekend, I wanna...

wish JARED a HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY!!!
miss ya loads pal, pls cheer up k? :)

and also daylight saving hours are on, that means I'm 14 hours behind Singapore (instead of 13hrs).

It's my first Halloween here in the US and boy am I glad I pushed all my books aside this weekend, just to have FUN, this Halloween! Wise decision, I must boast. Heh! Nowhere else in the US is the Halloween party bigger!!! It's ALL in MADISON!!!!!!

Now, I wanna introducing "Mean Jack" to you.... He's mine. HAHA...

Not bad for first pumpkin carving attempt eh? Haha... I found this whole pumpkin carving thing quite meaningful. I picked an ordinary looking pumpkin, make a cut on top, dug all all the mushy stuff inside, carved its eyes, nose and mouth and lighted a candle inside. Straight forward actions, akin to how we are chosen and moulded by God. Check this out:

Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff - including the seeds of doubt, hate and greed etc... Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

Look, Mean Jack's glowing from the inside. *LoL* Lookin mean, ain't he? Unfortunately, I was a little too hard on his mouth when I tried to push the carved mouthpiece out - a tooth dropped!!!!

The Sculptor and his work.

Praying you'll be like pumpkins, (haha)

And so it goes

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense

And every time I’ve held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

And this is why my eyes are closed
It’s just as well for all I’ve seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you’re the only one who knows

So I would choose to be with you
That’s if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you’re the only one who knows.

This is such a sad song man....

I just can't live a lie

Lately, nothing I do ever seems to please you
And maybe turning my back would be that much easier,
Cause hurtful words are all that we exchange
But I can’t watch you walk away
Could I forget about the way it feels to touch you?
And all about the good times that we’ve been through?
Could I wake up without you everyday, would I let you walk away?

No I can’t learn to live without
And I can’t give up on us now.

Chorus:
Oh, I know I could say we’re through
And tell myself I’m over you
But even if I made a vow
A promise not to miss you
Now and try to hide the truth inside
I fail cause I just can’t live a lie

Verse 2:
Could I forget the look that tells me that you want me?
And all the reasons that make loving you so easy,
The kiss that always makes it hard to breathe,
The way you know just what I mean,

No I can’t learn to live without, oh,
So don’t you give up on us now.

Chorus:
Oh, I know I could say we’re through
And tell myself I’m over you
But even if I made a vow
A promise not to miss you
Now and try to hide the truth inside
I fail cause I just can’t live a lie

(Instrumental)

And I don’t wanna try
When I try to hide the truth inside
I fail cause I just can’t live a lie
I can’t live a lie
I can’t live a lie

part 2 of 3: reformation

Hello my dears,

Part 2 of my 3-part installment of living a life abroad, my life that is…. Yes, in a flash, I’ve been away from home for 2 months! I’ve completed the first cycle of midterm exams and the second cycle’s gonna come in about a week’s time. Weather wise, it’s really starting to get cold here – temperatures hitting sub-zero in the early morning and at night – and it’ll only get worse. In addition, the daylight hours are starting to decrease!!! And that’s a definitely NO-NO for a sun-lover like moi!!! *sobs* Just last month, the sun sets at around 7:30pm and now, it gets completely dark by 6:45pm! It’s gonna hit 4:30pm at the deep of winter. Sianz…

Well, last month, I talked about the “rebirth” process – how I have to start everything from scratch, being thrown “helplessly” into a foreign environment. Honestly, I’ve gotten used to having to do everything – housekeeping, laundry, settling my meals – big and small by myself. Physical adaptation – 100% complete (or at least I think so…) but what I do struggle, occasionally, is the very fact of being physically separated from the people whom I love and care for (and vice versa).

A reformation process, which usually starts effecting changes in a person, follows a rebirth. I believe I’m still being shaped and molded by the environment, by the people whom I make contact with and by the activities I engage myself in. And the most potent force of reformation, in my opinion, is ‘losing’ the people that use to make up my everyday. People like family and friends.... they somehow aren't that 'accessible' now. I miss having Joo around to disturb at my disposal *sniggers*. I miss having Daddy pop by my room, be it just a look or a cup of hot "ge gen tang" when I'm having the snuffles.... I miss the convenience of having Jie around for a relax chat and discuss about "challenging" issues i.e. religion. I miss the night chats whenever I pop by Mum's room when she's rolling her hair.... Sigh

And I can't dial 6789*2** (ops, confidentiality here) as and when I like to hear Jared's sexy DJ voice! HAHAHA..... and Rey, sorry I can't be there to share your burdens, but please keep the emailing going. And all the usual hangouts/gatherings with clique, army friends, small groups.... it just doesn't happen now. But I think that separation might not really necessarily be a bad thing. An old adage goes, "Absence make the heart grow fonder..."?? And having to rely heavily on myself, I'm forced to be more independent and will be "stronger than yesterday!" *Britney Spear's Stronger plays at the background* HAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAAH

I’m thinking green now….. Realized that I miss army quite a lot – those “no-brainer” days when one just acts upon instructions like a programmed robot. It was the people whom I’ve come to know in army that made the whole experience more sensible and meaningful…. Quite a lot of shit we’ve done together, but we survived! I’m just thankful for the experience even though I’m not quite over with army making me more stupid! *puis* And the men are ORD-ing soon!!!! How fast is that? Taking them as recruits seems like what happened just a couple of days ago!

And I’m thinking of winter break too… Ah…. It’s finalized! Air tix to ORLANDO, FLORIDA on Christmas Eve booked!!! Ma ma MIAMI, too, here I come. Haha…. Traveling will never cease to excite me. Miss the Taj Mahal – ooohh what a beauty. Miss the Great Wall – I still haven’t got a good picture of you yet! Miss Australia too, coz I wanna hug the koalas!!! Weibin, I wanna visit you in Sydney someday!!! Miss Hollywood coz I had a B-L-A-S-Tin good time there and I haven’t been to Disneyland!

Watch out for the last installment, coming next month! Adios!

Cheers,
dash

first snow

The forecast was spot on!!! It's starting to snow!!! Can't believe snow comes so early this year, it usually starts in November... We just ended our weekly Wed nights "legs" chill out session at Buffalo Wings (FYI, the "legs" - it's what they call chicken drumlets here - go at 50cents per piece on Leg Wednesdays) and the moment we got out, we could see the light snow drifting along the cold winds... My first snow. We even tried to stick out our tongues to find out how snow tastes like... Haha... See, the snow just loves my pullover.... hehe.

Yuyun and Me....

Actually, I didn't want the snow to come so early... My wardrobe is not ready for the cold!!! I still want to wear summer/fall clothings!!!

speechless,

I Know! I Know~!

OMG!!!! PJH, you smelly ass~!!!!! You went to the King Thutankhamen exhibition in Chicago without inviting me?!?! Hrmph!!! I dun fren you already!!! HAHAHAHHA...

OMG... Dunno whether I've told you all before a not, but I've always digged Egyptology. Like the greatest every pharoah, Ramses II. And another prominenet pharoah, Meneptah. Plus the outcast pharoah, Akhenaton. And all the gods, like Amun, Ra, Isis, Anubis, Hathor, Set, Thoth, Osiris etc etc. And and who doesn't know the great monuments, like the pyramids, the Valley of the Kings, the Ramsesseum, Temple of Amun-Ra, and the very impressive, Abu Simbel.

Too many Christian Jacq books I suppose. Hurhurhurhur..... KNS, if the those semi-fiction books depict the rites correctly, I can even TELL you how the funeral process is, how many days they mourn, when and where the pharoah goes to the temples to pray for the annual Nile floods, what festivals they have, etc etc.

So, PJH, don't you DARE go to Egypt without pulling me along ok. By hook or by crook you will bring me along. =P

a few hours ago in chicago

Hey peeps,

just got back from Chicago!!! Man, the bus ride was unbearably long, especially the return journey as we met the Rush Hour. Chicago is nowhere like Los Angeles. Admittedly, I've not explored into the city but what makes Chicago stands out from LA is its bristling skyscrapers, so cluttered yet organised. I heard Chicago's the city that produced many famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright. Each building's architecture seem to has a story on its own...

Anyway, I was in Chicago to visit the Egyptian boy King Tutankhamun's exhibition at the Chicago Field Museum. Unfortunately, photography wasn't allowed, so I couldn't take nice shots of the pharoah's coffin and coffinettes (jars where the internal organs are kept). I did learnt quite alot about the history of ancient Egypt... Essentially, the Egyptians were very superstitious people, who believe strongly in afterlife - which explains why their funerals are always so elaborate. In case you didn't know, a pharoah is an intermediary of a mortal and a God, and after his death, pharoahs are suppose to ascend to become one of the great Gods. Egyptians like blue so much because it represents restoration and endurance (again, to do with afterlife). And often, cobras, vultures and falcons ornaments adorn the Pharoah and his mummy because these creatures have magical protective powers that can protect them. Now when shall I plan my trip to Egypt?? hahaha....

Even though it's a whole day burnt, I'm glad I finally got out of Madison to breathe some city air! Got 2 midterm exams next week!!! Gotta cheong tomorrow!!! take care! byeZ!

And the words I could never say Gonna come out anyway.

I am coming to realise that i have a tendency nowadays to blog always at the same place and the same time.
That is in AS7 in school during my Lunch break.
i do not understand why i always get the urge to do such thing, but well, here am i again giving you an update of my life in a flash!
Oh ya i actually just remembered why i decided to blog now:
The reason is because our dear Jacq says she is sick of seeing Mr Pua's entriess everytime ahe visits our blog, thus this will be a temporary relief for her from JH's entries. Haha!
School is beggining to come in full swing now:
Assignments to be completed by next week:

1. Econs Mid-Term MCQ Test (11 Oct)

2. Soci Essay on Race & Gender (13 Oct)
- Thank goodness i find this week's article interesting to read if not i think i might struggle harder. But i DEFINITELY need to revise the concepts man if not i will be out of point again!
haha!

3. Human Geog Project {With Rey} (16 Oct)
- Still hav a LOOOOOOONG way to go with this one.

4. Soci mid term test (16 Oct)

Once this is over, there will be a short break before more assignments due in the 1st week of Nov!!!!

Ok Rey has come to find me for project meeting so gtg...

Have a great week ppl!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Though it's been a long time since I blogged, just dropping by to say
HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY QING!

Happy Birthday!!!

October is here and we are finally celebrating the birth of 2 of the best guys around. Happy Birthday Qingy. You forgot you were supposed to meet me today but I guess maybe you have a hot date so you decided to pang seh me again but nevermind. See ya next wk. Oh guess what. The booty shaking video that Elvin took of you at my party has been flagged as inappropriate. Like what the hell la. I bet there is so much junk and smut going around on youtube. Further more its hardly sexual or anything. Too bad. I uploaded it but no one got to see it. I think its for the best too cause wouldn't wanna give Qing a bad name. You must be heaving a sigh of relief ya.

WB- Congrats on your superb results. Praise God. I want to see you when you get back even if its for a few hours la. Must definitely meet up k.

Recently a lot has been going on in my mind. Processes are running through my head but my words just can't seem to grasp them. Why do I sometimes feel like I'm fighting this battle alone? Falling down and trying to get up. Knowing how people care but yet you feel unworthy.

Though none go with me.
I still will follow.
No turning back.
Lead me back to you Lord.
This is my sincere prayer.

an act of kindness

Heya folks...

It's October 2006!!! 1 month to snow, 2 months to Christmas and 3 months to 2007!!! Time really flies eh? Let's see, what else is on October? Exams, midterms, tests, quizzes, papers, more exams, midterms, tests, quizzes, papers, even more exams, midterms, tests, quizzes, papers.... haha. It's also the Halloween month!!! So looking forward to it. There's going to be a real big halloween party around here in Wisconsin, and I "bat" we'll have lots of spooky ghoulish fun. Also, our dear Qing and Jared will turn "mouldy" (ps: if you don't get it, refer to Jan'06 entry). I want to comprain!!! I want to go for Orange and Stripes!!! I want Corduroy and Finch! I want my treats!! *protest protest* Haha....

I'll show you what have been entering my gastrointestinal tract last month. From simple self-prepared fare (top row) of pasta, steamed rice and half boil eggs (yum!), to occasional treats to fried rice, sze chuan dinner combo, and meat loaf (middle row) and at times splurge on food to make me feel good (bottom row). Had my first Jap meal a couple of Saturdays back - hey hey, not cheap ok!!! The Tonkatsu rice set cost USD13!!! But a nice warm meal sure puts a smile on my face.

However, nothing beats Lin Ya "Jie jie"'s home-style Chinese food. It was already nearing 9pm. Tired and hungry (I haven't had dinner), I went over to a senior's place to collect some stuff. Lin Ya (another senior) happened to be at that senior's place and after learning I haven't had dinner, she kindly invited me over to her place for dinner. Learnt alot of cooking tips from her. She cooks rice with green beans as she said green beans has "toxin cleansing" properties. Her kitchen cabinets are packed with herbal tea, dried shrimps, mushrooms, all fresh from China. No wonder the old cucumber soup tasted so so good.... That's because she added dried 'sotong' into the soup. Reminded me of what I used to get at home. Felt very paiseh that I had to impose on her, but I sure am very thankful of the very seniors I have here at UW. I left her home at 10:30pm, completely gratified. Happy.

Attended UW International Dance Concert on Saturday night. Not too bad considering the concert's free. Scottish, Ghana, Carribean, Chinese, Gaelic, Indian, Mexican dances - you name it, they have it.

Update ends here... keep me posted! :)

cheers,
dash
